چکیده

Herein, the concept and data for cancer treatment that combines ultrasound and nanoparticles is reported. Non-toxic gold and magnetic nanoparticles were used to enhance the ultrasound destruction of cancer cells in vitro. Separate monolayers of normal and cancer cells were treated by focused ultrasound with the result of more pronounced damage of cancer cells when biocompatible gold and magnetic nanoparticles were added in the culture media. The data obtained on different cell lines, indicate that nanoparticleassisted ultrasound therapy can provide an effective new tool for cancer treatment and potentially can be combined with conventional methods of cancer diagnosis and therapy to further increase the overall cancer cure rate.

Gold nanoparticle-induced sonosensitization enhances the antitumor activity of ultrasound in colon tumor-bearing mice

Introduction: Light-driven cancer therapy strategies (e.g. photodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy) have undergone remarkable progress in recent years, but they still suffer from a serious drawback of limited penetration depth of light in tissue. As a non-invasive and non- ionizing radiation, ultrasound can be focused remotely, transferring acoustic energy deep in the bo...

Selective killing of cancer cells by nanoparticle-assisted ultrasound

BACKGROUND Intense ultrasound, such as that used for tumor ablation, does not differentiate between cancerous and normal cells. A method combining ultrasound and biocompatible gold or magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) was developed under in vitro conditions using human breast and lung epithelial cells, which causes ultrasound to preferentially destroy cancerous cells. RESULTS Co-cultures of BEAS-2...

Effects of Ultrasound Irradiation on the Release Profile of 5-fluorouracil from Magnetic Polylactic co-glycolic Acid Nanocapsules

Background: Drug nano-carriers are one of the most important tools for targeted cancer therapy so that undesired side effects of chemotherapy drugs are minimized. In this area, the use of ultrasound can be helpful in controlling drug release from nanoparticles to achieve higher treatment efficiency. Objective: Here, we studies the effects of ultrasound irradiation on the release profile of 5-flu...

Separation of Curcumin from Curcuma longa L. and its Conjugation with Silica Nanoparticles for Anti-cancer Activities

Curcumin is the natural bio-active component of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) with known therapeutic properties; nevertheless, its biological applications are limited due to its poor bioavailability. To overcome this limitation, curcumin was conjugated with silica nanoparticles. Curcumin was separated from turmeric by microwave-assisted extraction and silica nanoparticles were developed from rice...
